About my dollies

Éna and Phindile

This is where you will find out about the dolls and toys I create from quality yarns. You will read their stories, and also about whatever else I come across that may encourage you.

The first doll I ever made was when I was about 5 or 6 years old... I took some stalks or long grass from a clump, and somehow managed to twist when into a "dolly" that I could play with while we were out picnicking. Imperfect as she was, I was as pleased as could be with her. As a result of this, and from my experience as a maker, I personally believe that it's not so much what you use to create with, but that the final outcome expresses something beautiful, and loveable... something unique.

I feel that children of all ages need something soft and cuddly to play with, or to just "be" with, that they can ethnically relate to... a little "person" just like them. We live in a very "plastic" world, and a little bit of softness goes a long way...

A group of crocheted minis

A lot of time and love go into each little dolly, and as I design them from my own pattern, each one is completely unique...just like us... one of a kind!

The smaller dolls are 28cm approximately, and the larger dolls are 30cm approximately, a nice size to carry with you. I use a mixture of yarns...cotton, wool, acrylic, bamboo... if I see it and it says "doll", and it sparks off something in my creative process, I use it!

The little ones are R350 each, plus postage. The bigger ones are R450 each, plus postage. Minis vary from R200 to R250 each, plus postage. From time to time I will make the mini dolls availabe as well. I have tried to keep the costs down, as far as possible, all things considered, including the amount of time that goes into creating a handmade dolly, and believe me...It's many hours! But I love it!

These dollies are also decor items, and add a touch of whimsy to any room, placed on a chair, a bed, or a shelf, or wherever your imagination takes you... just waiting for a quick cuddle.

(100% pure cotton or pure wool dolls are on order only.)

My dolls are available and you can contact me via the contact form, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Unfortunately at present they are only available locally in South Africa, due to the high cost of overseas postage from South Africa.
